Post Title:                  Senior Mechanical Engineer

Description

 

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing a professional mechanical engineering capability that ensures all relevant engineering standards (legal, competent body, in-house and client) are complied with on any aspect of Stopford work.

 

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

 

  • Have the experience ability to represent the Company to Clients in a manner that assures the Client of our ability to provide whatever service is required.
  • Work within a multi-discipline project team
  • Carry out preliminary mechanical engineering calculations, write specifications and scope of work documentation such that vendors can provide initial quotation and that an EPC can take on the detailed design phase
  • Establish the appropriate standards to meet specific process system conditions, including establishment of the materials of construction, relevant design, manufacturing, construction and acceptance standards.
  • Liaise with vendors regarding the specification and procurement of all aspects of supply of mechanical equipment.
  • Carry out bid analysis for the procurement of items, including pre-delivery inspections and factory acceptance testing/examination
  • Work with the Piping team regarding interpretation and development of scope of works, specifications, layout, design reviews, including the identification of equipment loadings, any specific holding down requirements and any features which may impact structural/civil design
  • Work in conjunction with the combined Engineering discipline team to create a design of plant, equipment and layout that meets a client’s requirements.
  • Identify any specific elements of construction that require special consideration and conduct regular Client/site visits to check progress, inspect quality and assure compliance with design throughout projects
  • Visit clients to carry out survey work or attend progress/technical meetings.
  • Interpret requirements of other engineering disciplines and provide relevant information to ensure compliance with CDM principal designers duties.
  • Ensure the impact of any changes on specifications/design are understood and implemented across all aspects of the design, including Client, other disciplines and Contractors.
  • Provide mechanical engineering guidance to other departments and support the training and development of new engineers – maintaining up to date knowledge of industry trends and issues.
  • Proactively engage with clients, developing and maintaining strong, positive business relationships, understand their needs and recognise opportunities.
  • Understand and implement best practices in mechanical engineering, risk management and cost/schedule control

 

 

Minimum Requirements – Education and Experience

 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Significant experience in mechanical engineering within a project environment
  • Experience working across the full project lifecycle (concept, FEED, detailed design, construction and commissioning)
  • Good understanding of relevant industry standards
  • Experience of specifying mechanical equipment, specifically within the waste to energy or plastics to fuel industry
  • Basic knowledge of CAD. Ideally with Plant3D.
  • Ability to manage, motivate and develop others
  • Ability to influence and lead in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong leadership skills and desire to take on additional responsibility in the future
  • Ability to collaborate across the disciplines
  • Strong communicator with an ability to tailor content and style of communications in the most demanding and ambiguous situations. Able to persuade without dominating at the highest levels
  • Solid technical skills recognising the possibility of utilising currently available software to aid design where available. Able to use PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

 

Experience within the waste to energy or plastics to fuel sectors would be preferable.

Description

Requirements of the role

Management of the ISO 9001 accredited Quality Management System (QMS), to ensure the QMS conforms to regulatory & legal requirements is aligned with the business strategy, is effective, efficient and improves over time.  Achieve accreditation for ISO14001 Environmental & ISO45001 Health & Safety and bring together as a fully integrated management system (IMS) The role is covered by the four areas below;

• Process maintenance of the QMS

• Reporting on the performance of the QMS

• Customer requirements promotion

• Liaison with external parties

An experienced QA manager +10 years’ with a proven background in ISO standards-based management systems including ISO 9001, ISO14001 & ISO 45001 with project management experience. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, (Process, Mechanical, Environmental preferred)  Excellent communication (verbal and written) and leadership skills as well as the ability to work in a demanding multidisciplinary environment. Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point)

Duties and Responsibilities

Full knowledge & understanding of all Stopford Management Systems & Policies; QMS, ICT, HR, H&S. Work with the Commercial Director to lead a cultural change within the organisation to change individual behaviours and established ways of working to make quality the responsibility of all to support the long-term success of the business and competitive advantage.

Work with the Commercial Director to define the quality objectives  Provide weekly reports/updates to CD  Lead & manage the annual QA audit  Lead & Manage the core Quality Team (Auditors, H&S) to deliver the quality objectives. Lead & Manage the wider Quality Team meetings (Directors, Senior leaders, and project managers)

 

Process Maintenance aspects of the QMS

Work with the service groups responsible directors and senior leadership team to ensure compliance & introduce changes where necessary aligned with the quality objectives

• Review working level documents and templates to support the QMS

• Review QMS system to align with Company restructure, update policies and procedures where necessary

• Ensure relevant records are maintained and retained in accordance with the QMS

• Ensure that all staff & contractors are working to comply with the Stopford management systems & policies, QMS, ICT, HR, H&S

• Provide technical support and knowledge to the Service Groups to ensure the company meets with its legal obligations

• Drive continuous improvement

• Monitor all operations that affect quality

• Assure the reliability and consistency of production by checking processes and final output

• Work with the Service Groups to ensure that the Stopford management systems is followed and is actual practice

• Writing of Guidance notes, polices and standard operating procedures

• Communicate, train, and implement quality initiatives • Lead coach and train the core quality team

• Preparation of Audit Programs, scheduling, coordinating, managing and participating in Internal and External Quality Audits (ISO/Client)

• Promote and support the over-all improvement of all processes through internal quality system audits • Development and implementing a program for Correction and when applicable, Corrective Action in respect to Non-conformances

• Lead root cause analysis, coordinating corrective/preventative actions for customer complaints; internal non-conformances and alerts also driving continuous improvement initiatives to deliver year on year improvements in quality

 

Reporting on the performance of the QMS

• Development and presentation of data for the Stopford Board Meetings & for the regular Q-Team meetings including KPI’s developed with the CD taking the necessary actions to ensure effectiveness

• Administration of Customer complaints

• Collate and report issues identified by horizon scanning to the CD & wider Quality Team

• Reporting on the performance of the QMS

The Role

Stopford Energy and Environment is looking for a CIMA part-qualified Management Accountant with a minimum of 2 years’ experience of accounting in industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of accurate and timely management accounts
  • Manage the preparation of sales invoices and credit control
  • Manage supplier invoices, expense processing and payments
  • Daily review of Company Bank and invoice finance accounts.
  • Preparation of weekly cash flow forecasts – forecasting sales receipts, supplier payments and outgoings
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Prepare project reviews, analysis and project cost to complete reports for management
  • Ensure that payroll adjustments are administered accurately and timely (e.g. promotion, leaver, sickness, holiday, maternity/paternity leave, etc.)
  • Preparation of management reports to external stakeholders as and when required
  • Support the business managers in the provision and interpretation of financial information through business partnering
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts drafting appropriate commentaries and recommendations
  • Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of business and project risk
  • Ensure that all financial statements and records are maintained in accordance with the latest financial regulations and legislation
  • Liaise with bank and financial institutions
  • Preparation of audit files and statutory accounts
  • Liaise with auditors to ensure accurate and timely preparation of audit information

Skills, Education and Experience

  • CIMA part qualified – study support provided
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of accounting in industry
  • Preferable experience of working in engineering and project management environment
  • Ability to manage time and activities
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
