PFA Characterisation for a Novel Waste Treatment Technology

Stopford’s R&D team conducted a discrete study to identify the suitablility of various types of Pulverized Fuel Ash (PFA) for a novel waste treatment technology.  A suite of studies were conducted to assess; the chemical composition of different sources of PFA (using ICP-MS), including analysis of the absolute and leachable fractions of metals; the physical characteristics of the different sources of PFA and paint waste sludge including the determination of particle size and distribution (using laser diffraction) and the shape of the different PFA cenospheres (using optical and SEM microscopy).
